Consultation Statistique - Statistical Consulting

Statistical Consulting

Our broad mandate is to provide statistical advice to the academic community, as well as non-academics.

Academic Community: Our main goal is to enhance the quality of research at the academic community by providing expert advice on the optimal way to collect data and on how to analyze these data once they have been collected. Graduate students are invited to consult our firm while conducting their thesis research. Under some circumstances, and by mutual agreement, the consultant will be regarded as a collaborator on the research and be a co-author on publications that depend on the statistical analyses carried out at our firm; in these cases the consulting fee may be partially waived.

Non-Academics: Research projects, Market survey analysis, Reliability analysis, Industry (quality control and product development and improvement : Designing systems that are insensitive to environmental factors that can affect performance once the system is deployed in the field. Designing products that are insensitive to variability transmitted by the components of the system. Designing processes so that the manufactured product will be as close as possible to the desired target specifications even though some process variables or raw material characteristics are impossible to control precisely. Determining the operating conditions for a process so that critical product characteristics are as close as possible to the desired target value and the variability around this target is minimized.).

Some past and current projects: More than one hundred academic and non-academic consultations and projects: Ministry of Education of Quebec (France, Lebanon and Morocco), Montreal University, Concordia University, and UQAM: Adolescent behavioral, affective, and cognitive engagement in school: Relationship to dropout, Student engagement and its relationship with early high school dropout. Society of Housing of Quebec (SHQ): An optimal allocation of housing-aid (Market Survey & Aid on Decision). Ministry of natural resources and faun of Quebec: Reforestation project & Control of forestry operations.

Principal Fields of Expertise: Design of experiments and analysis (ANOVA, ANACOVA, Split-plot, Nested models, Crossover, etc), Mixed models, Non-linear mixed models, Multilevel and hierarchical models, Random models, Path diagram, Canonical correlation, Structural equations models, Linear and non-linear regression, Descriptive statistics, Frequency analysis, Logistic regression, Time series analysis, Multivariate analysis (ACP, AFC, Clustering, ...), Suvival analysis, Non-parametric analysis, Meta-Analysis, Generalized linear models, Robust statistics, Spatial statistics, Survey and sampling methodologies, Re-sampling methods, Statistic of quality, Optimisation, Simulation, Gaussian process and Kriging, Optimal sampling design, Industrial statistics.

Services Offered:
- Advice on the design of experiments and studies.
- Advice on survey methods (determination of adequate sample size , determination of an adequate sampling procedure for a study, survey or experiment).
- Advice on the collection of data (supervision of data collection to ensure elements of the population are being sampled correctly).
- Advice on the statistical analysis of data (e.g., analysis of variance, regression, etc). - Advice on measurement instruments (choosing, constructing and analyzing).
- Implementation of statistical analyses under certain circumstances.
- Advice on statistical software packages (SAS, Splus, R, LISREL, etc) and how to use and compare them.
- Advice on the preparation of the statistical methods sections of grant applications and research manuscripts, including assistance with budgeting for consulting services on grant proposals.
- Troubleshooting following review, for manuscripts that need revisions to the statistical methods section.
